INAUGURATION OF THE PEACE SCHOOL

¿How can we contribute to the construction of peace in Colombia?
Tuesday 6 December 2005, by Justapaz ·

Three of the institutions belonging to the Mennonite Church in Colombia - the Biblical Seminary, Justapaz, and Mencoldes - wishing to take advantage of the profound experiences each one has in different areas such as training, justice, nonviolence, and community development, have united to bring forth a School for Peace, as a contribution to a more peaceful future.

The general objective of this project is to capacitate persons to promote, through community processes, a peaceful way of life, as well as sustainable development within their local contexts. Last July, thirty persons, women and men from different churches and denominations, began the first course which will take place between 2005 and 2007. The participants will receive instruction from a Christian perspective, not only on Biblical and theological subjects which are relevant to peace, but they will also be trained in the knowledge of current affairs, in project management, and in the use of tools for conflict transformation.

With the purpose of achieving a balance between theory and practice, the school’s methodology requires that participants become involved in a social commitment during their second year of studies, in order to apply the learning they have acquired.

The Peace School plans on initiating the second course the middle of next year. Those interested in participating may contact:
